Projects 2009

Cherry D makes a practical and very real difference to community groups and charities in Bristol by helping them tackle their own organisational challenges whether it’s business planning, management, or fundraising. Unfortunately our income is down for this year and we have more calls on our support than ever; we have a pile of projects pending and at the moment we do not have enough funds to provide support to them all.

Projects we need funding for right now include,

Fareshare South West

A local initiative distributing food which would otherwise go to landfill, contributing, through Community Partners, to 30,000 meals each month and providing training opportunities for unemployed and homeless people.

The Green House

Avon Sexual Abuse Centre Children’s Services, in December 2008 we secured £9,200 to pay the salary of a part time Development Manager and we are awaiting a decision from the Primary Care Trust to fund an expansion in the provision of services for children in Bristol who have been sexually abused. This year we would like to work on a project costing about £5,000 to support raising £150,000 to convert and equip an old garage into child friendly consulting rooms.

Bristol Community Radio (BCfm)

Bristol Community Radio has an audience of about 10,000 and programming targeted at the issues affecting both the people who broadcast them and communities who listen. Programmes include a weekly programme for Somali women with advice on accessing health services as well as programmes on local events and services, education, employment and cultural engagement. Cherry D‘s support would help BCfm to develop commercial advertising initiatives to ensure a sustainable future engaging with “hard to reach“and targeted sectors.

Other projects include,

  • Involving local businesses with community development projects in Greater Bedminster
  • Developing a forum giving a voice to organisations involved with sexual abuse, drug and alcohol misuse and prostitution. Identifying potential collaborative work, building of experience
  • Finding emergency accommodation for homeless young people
  • Supporting a community garden built by and for schools and disabled groups
  • Supporting people with mental health problems across the city

You can help

£50 could pay for a consultation session with Cherry D Project Manager when we could help to identify the scope of a charity’s need and refer them to potential solutions.

£500 would pay for 2 days with a professional Trust Funder identifying trusts to apply to and supporting in writing applications.

£1,000 could pay for the building of a website for a Bristol charity, enabling them to promote their work and to receive donations on-line.

£5,000 could sponsor an entire project including Cherry D support from initial planning through to evaluation and even including consultant’s fees!
