Business Case Studies

Halo Media
As part of their CSR commitment Halo produced our original website in November 2003 for a reduced rate, as we managed to put some more paid work their way they have offered to revamp our website for free.

Halo have also made a substantial business donation (£2,000) towards a project to help a local charity become more sustainable.

Sponsorship of a staff member
Halo staff have run the Bristol ½ Marathon for Cherry D raising significant amounts of sponsorship from friends, family and colleagues.  This is also a very good opportunity for businesses to show their support of their staff and the local community by agreeing to match funding.  Whatever the staff member manages to raise in sponsorship themselves, the company can offer to donate the same amount.

Company Sponsored Events
Halo sponsored one of the races at a fundraising event  “Funracing” which gave them the opportunity to name the race, appear on the advertising and promotional material produced for the event.  This also provided a useful networking opportunity as many other local businesses also attended.

Papadeli
Local deli Papadeli were keen to support a charity that focuses on those people in  Bristol who are most in need.  They put together a comprehensive package of support that all retailers could emulate.

Menu Item - Cherry D plate
The very popular mixed Mezze plate on their menu had 50p voluntary donation added to the price, all of which comes to Cherry D.  Each quarter Papadeli send a cheque that helps small local charities, this regular income is vital for good financial planning

PR & Marketing - Window sticker
As retailers by necessity have a prominent location Papadeli’s offer to display a giant window sticker was invaluable for our PR.  Smaller window stickers are also available to show support for the Giving Back to Bristol Campaign

Collecting Tins
Papadeli collects spare change on our behalf, providing funds for projects we undertake with the charities we support and more visibility for Cherry D within the local community

Donation of hampers/prizes
Gifts in Kind, raffle prizes etc are always needed by charities to support other fundraising activities.

“The Cherry D plate is a simple and effective way of supporting local charities. It is hassle free for us to operate and our customers like to see their money going to a good cause. Having Cherry D as our chosen charity means that we can concentrate on one organisation whilst benefiting a number of great projects in the Bristol area. Simon MacDonnell, Papadeli

Rolls-Royce
Rolls-Royce have a very well developed Corporate Community Involvement package.  The company  provides the Rolls- Royce Apprentice Association (AA) with the time and resources to fundraise for their chosen charities of the year.

Each year the Apprentice Association chooses three charities to support for that year .  They then embark on a calendar of sponsorship and fundraising events which culminate in the winter ball where scores of donated items are auctioned off.

The AA raised money through sponsored events including; the Three Peaks Challenge, the Dragon Boat Races at the Harbourside Festival, fundraising at the family fun day, collections, fancy dress days etc.

Rolls-Royce are pleased to be able to support their apprentices in these fundraising activities as they get to learn important skills around team building, motivation, negotiating skills, fundraising, and arranging cross departmental events.

PR and Marketing Opportunities
Cherry D was able to have a stand at the Rolls-Royce Family Fun Day in 2006 where we raffled off a branded Mountain bike and raised £200 on the day, as well as having the opportunity to talk to some of the employees and tell them about Cherry D.

Print
Rolls-Royce printed some flyers in-house for one of our charities who were having problems finding the funds for their brochure.

First Aid Course
2 free places were offered on the Rolls-Royce certified 4 day first aid course which would have cost £450 per place commercially.

Cherry D works with the business sector in securing help and support for local charities and community projects. Rolls-Royce continues to be delighted to be involved with Cherry D. The company sees Cherry D as a prime link in advising and supporting charities throughout the city. Roger James, Community Relations Manager, Rolls-Royce South West

Venue Magazine
Venue have supported Cherry D from the start, and are and invaluable in so many ways

PR Coverage
Venue is staunch supporters of local charities.  They provide regular editorial and exceptionally cheap advertising and recruitment space as well as periodic filler ads.  Cherry D’s Giving Back to Bristol Stamp also featured on their inside back cover for many years.

Payroll Giving
Venue were kind enough to invite us in to give a payroll giving talk, following which an impressive number of employees have signed up to donate what they can afford each month. Gift aid is added at source so donations are worth almost 1/3 more.

Fundraising Gigs
Venue allowed us to have an information stand and collect money at many of their gigs. This helped to raise our profile, add to our income, as well as recruit new volunteers and sponsors.

“Cherry D makes so much sense for Venue Magazine. Cherry D make a real impact on a local level.  Our staff have embraced payroll giving as it is such a simple way of giving back to Bristol”  Dave Higgitt, Group Editor,Venue Publishing

The Mall Galleries
The Mall Galleries preferred to engage with a local charity compared with a national one as there was a stronger connection with the Galleries itself and the constituent retailers. Small local charities are often more connected and available than national or international charities.  As The Mall Galleries is an umbrella organisation, this gave us an introduction to all the shops within it

Tin collections
15 separate retailers agreed to take Cherry D tins.

Easter Egg Collection
Promotion where Cherry D could engage with the customers and staff of the Mall Galleries, with Cherry D signage etc. Customers were encouraged to buy an Easter egg from one of the Mall Galleries shops and drop it in the collecting bin for local children’s charities.  The Mall donated £1 for every egg donated and  raised £275

Raffle/prizes
Offered balloon flights for given away as prizes.

PR & Marketing Opportunities
As the Charity of the Year for the Mall Galleries we were invited to have our  exhibition stand there on 2 strategic weekends over the year. This helped to spread the Cherry D message and recruit supporters, volunteers and make collections.

Mall Retailer Awards Night
The opportunity for Cherry D representatives to attend and (speak at the Mall highlight of year, The Mall Galleries Retailer Awards night at Jongleurs.  Awards were given to selected deserving retailers, with a charity raffle which raised a total of £1,133.10 for Cherry D.
